Alastair Macaulay
Former general practitioner Edinburgh (b 1921; q Edinburgh 1950), died from cerebrovascular disease on 31 January 2006.

His father and grandfather had been ministers of the Presbyterian Church of Ireland, whose influence, following his schooling at Campbell College in Belfast, stood him in good stead as he attracted younger doctors to the practice. While recognising their abilities, he maintained a steading hand. Never articulating his natural skill as a doctor, for he was a modest man, he maintained the highest standards of care and professional relationships.
He leaves a wife, Evelyn, and six children and their families. [Henry H Gebbie]
