    Hospital teams, care home staff, and GPs will be expected to screen patients for malnutrition or risk of malnourishment, under new clinical guidelines for England.

    The guideline on nutrition support in adults, from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), says that all patients should be screened on admission to hospital or entry to care homes or on registration with a GP.

    For inpatients screening should be repeated weekly or where there is clinical concern. Staff in primary care should use opportunistic health checks, such as flu vaccination appointments, to …
