Frances's first resident post was at the Midland Hospital, Birmingham, where she met her future husband, Marshall, during a ward round. They married in 1939 and settled in Sutton Coldfield, where Frances did locum GP work. In 1948 she was appointed as an anaesthetist to the West Bromwich Hospitals. In 1968 she and Marshall moved to Beaulieu in the New Forest, and she continued to do anaesthetic sessions at the Victoria Hospital in Bournemouth and at Odstock Hospital in Salisbury until she retired in 1974. Predeceased by a son, she leaves three daughters and nine grandchildren.
