Julius Kimerling
General practitioner Kensington, London (b Lvov 1937; q Guy’s Hospital
1961; MRCP Lond 1966), died from mesothelioma on 1 July 2005.
After house jobs in London Julius was medical registrar at St Mary’s Hospital,
Paddington. At the outbreak of the six day war in 1967 Julius was on the
first plane of volunteers to leave for Israel. He remained there after the
war working as a cardiologist/internist, and, having met and married Nina,
he returned in 1971 to join his father’s practice in Kensington. His father
continued to see patients into his 90s and Julius, also a much loved and
dedicated doctor, hoped to do the same. Julius was especially interested
in the visual arts, travel, and literature, and was a keen bridge player.
He retired from the NHS in 1997 but continued in private practice until the
tragic diagnosis of mesothelioma was made, in spite of no known exposure
to asbestos. For one year he underwent chemotherapy, major surgery, and radiotherapy,
but to no avail. He leaves a wife, Nina, and two children, and will be greatly
missed by his patients, family, and friends. [George Conn]
