Jean Mary Scott (née Lewis)
Former assistant paediatrician St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey (b Wolverhampton
1917; q Birmingham 1940; DCH London 1967), d 6 May 2005.
Jean was a captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps in 1943 and saw service
in India and Malaysia as a medical specialist. She was demobilised in 1947.
She started the blood transfusion service in Penang and then worked for
the Singapore Anti-Tuberculosis Association before returning to England in
1962. After attaining the diploma in child health she worked as assistant
paediatrician at St Peter’s, Chertsey, and the White Lodge Centre. After
retiring from the NHS she worked at the Charles Johnston Hospital, Nqutu,
Zululand.
She married Angus Scott in 1948 and was widowed in 1979. She remarried,
to John Wilson, in 1980, and was widowed again in 1990.
She leaves three sons, the eldest of whom is a consultant orthopaedic
surgeon, and one stepson; six grandchildren, of whom one qualified as a doctor
in 2003; and three great grandchildren. [William Scott]
