    EDITOR—The theme issue on managing chronic diseases deliberately focused on patients' needs, unlike the previous two on the subject, and several issues emerged in the accompanying webchat.1

    Was the focus on particular diseases the latest thinking in managing them? Patients' needs and generic self management skills might be more important than the disease they had to live with.
