Former consultant general surgeon Salisbury District Hospitals, Wiltshire (b 1936; q Cambridge/Middlesex Hospital, London, 1961; MChir, FRCS), d 25 January 2005.
Bonar was a true general surgeon. During his years in Salisbury he developed the breast surgery service, established specialised urology, and set up a short stay ward. He also became medical officer to the Salisbury race course and soon was deeply committed to the sport of kings, owning several more or less successful horses with his friends. He died after a long illness, slowly deteriorating Pick's disease. He leaves a wife and three children.
