After qualifying and further study Lorna became a GP trainee on the Isle of Lewis. She came to love the island and would have stayed but for family reasons. In 1968 she joined a rural practice in Ancaster, Lincolnshire. Women's health and family planning were special interests. As in Lewis she was loved and respected by her patients as a skilful and compassionate family doctor. Her many interests included walking her dogs, travelling the world, and considerable charity work.
