Michael Shirley Adams
Former general practitioner Tring (b Clitheroe 1920; q Cambridge/St Thomas’s Hospital, London, 1945), died from prostate cancer on 27 April 2004.Michae1 Adams was the son of Dr Frank Adams, a London consultant psychiatrist.
After house jobs at St Thomas’s he joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve for his national service. On demobilisation he married Anne Fullerton, a physiotherapist he had met at St Thomas’s, and by whom he had three sons. He then worked as a senior house officer at Prince of Wales Hospital, Tottenham, and the London Chest Hospital. After his hospital appointments he decided that his future lay in general practice and he joined the leading practice in Tring, where he continued to work until his retirement in 1980.
On retirement he went to live in Seaview, Isle of Wight, and took an active part in the village life there, in particular the sailing activities.
We extend our sympathies to his widow and their three children who were of considerable support to him, particularly in his last days.
A memorial service was held at St Peter’s Church, Seaview, and was attended by a large congregation including some of the partners and patients from the practice from which he retired over 20 years earlier. [Anthony J Moon]
