Former general practitioner Stoke-on-Trent (b County Tipperary, Ireland, 1915; q Dublin 1946), died from cardiovascular disease on 27 January 2004.
John moved to north Staffordshire in the 1950s, entering general practice in Stoke-on-Trent, where he continued as a family doctor until his retirement. He came from a farming family and had a great love and knowledge of the countryside. He was a keen golfer and his name figures in Trentham Golf Club's book of outstanding achievements as the oldest member to win a medal (at the age of 86). His wife, Renee, predeceased him.
