Liberia appeals for funds to rebuild health system after peace

Liberia launched an appeal this week for $16m (£9.5m; €13.6m) to provide emergency health care and drugs in 2004 to its beleaguered population and to help it to start rebuilding its wrecked public health system from scratch.
Of more than 200 doctors and 600 physicians' assistants in Liberia before the war only about 25 doctors and 150 paramedics remained in place, as thousands of people fled for their lives.
