Access to maternity services is key to preventing deaths

    Access to maternity health services is one of two key indicators for maternal mortality in developing countries, a study has found (Tropical Medicine and International Health 2003:8:710-21).

    Although income per head of population is also important, other factors, such as having a trained attendant at the delivery, are not, the report says.
