Next stage of NHS reforms come under fire

    The government's plans to extend the number of foundation trust hospitals and boost the throughput of surgical cases in “fast track” diagnostic and treatment centres have renewed fears that the schemes are being implemented too quickly, threatening to create more problems than they solve.

    Prime Minister Tony Blair announced last week that all three-star hospitals in England would be invited to apply for foundation trust status, bringing the number eligible to 63.
