After house jobs, he was a trainee in a busy four partner practice in Fairwater, a suburb of Cardiff, where he remained, ultimately as a senior partner. A special interest in children's ear infections led to a thesis, which earned him his MD. He played rugby and golf, and had an impish sense of humour and an encyclopaedic knowledge of claret and vintage port. Predeceased by his wife, Diana, he leaves four children and three grandchildren.
