    When I was a second year medical student in Edinburgh I frequently had sore throats. I found them quite debilitating, and as I had not started my clinical studies I had little idea of the cause or what to do about them. I went to see the student health doctor on several occasions. He usually prescribed phenol gargle but occasionally “M&B.”
