After qualification she worked in East End hospitals, usually being assigned the venereal disease wards to test her mettle. She married in 1934, therefore becoming unsuitable for hospital appointments, and so she went into general practice in Chingford until 1946. Moving to Abingdon she continued in practice until 1952, when she was appointed school medical officer for North Berkshire. She was a magistrate and school governor for 25 years, and a town councillor, becoming mayor in 1971. Her husband died in 1988.
