Researchers launch major initiative to hunt human cancer genes

UK and Dutch research centres announced a major, joint initiative this week to use one of the latest molecular research techniques—RNA interference—to systematically identify new genes causing human cancers.
The collaboration between Cancer Research UK and the Netherlands Cancer Institute will use RNA interference to switch off individual genes in cells while leaving others unaffected. This will be then be used to uncover individual genes that become over-expressed in human cancers.
