Rapid responses are electronic comments to the editor. They enable our users
to debate issues raised in articles published on bmj.com. A rapid response
is first posted online. If you need the URL (web address) of an individual
response, simply click on the response headline and copy the URL from the
browser window. A proportion of responses will, after editing, be published
online and in the print journal as letters, which are indexed in PubMed.
Rapid responses are not indexed in PubMed and they are not journal articles.
The BMJ reserves the right to remove responses which are being
wilfully misrepresented as published articles or when it is brought to our
attention that a response spreads misinformation.
From March 2022, the word limit for rapid responses will be 600 words not
including references and author details. We will no longer post responses
that exceed this limit.
The word limit for letters selected from posted responses remains 300 words.
Kurdstan is a state divided between Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria. It
is rich with oil and it is main source for water to Turkey, Iraq and Syria
however many Kurdish health workers seeked refuge in western countries.
For political reasons the share for health budget to Kurds is much less
compared to the dominant ethnic group in each country in addition to
continous torture, oppression and ethnic cleansing.
Health workers from Kurdstan of Iraq not only worried about their refuge
status in western countries if they will try to re-build Kurdstan in such
a volatile place but also it is almost very hard to pass different
barriers. They need to enter through Turkey, Syria or Iran as they are
always at risk of death penalty if they try Iraqi path. Again they need to
pay bribes and take a long journey in addition to the fear of co-
ordination between security forces of these countries and Iraqi regime.
Kurish people in the save heaven area though they enjoy some temporary
relief from torture of the central government in Baghdad but most areas
are highly deprived and the medical knowlege and skills are of 1970s. They
need help and support in anyway. There are highly motivated Kurdish health
workers want to go and support and for that purpose it is the
responsibility of the UN to find an airport inside Kurdstan of Iraq to
open this barrier and allow health workers and other professionals to help
in re-buiding new Kurdstan of Iraq.
