The Medical Council of Ireland is to receive proposals to remove the ban on abortion from its ethical guide, which governs professional behaviour of doctors in the republic.
The move comes in response to the council's request for submissions from doctors as part of an update of its ethical code, which is currently under way. Doctors for Choice, a group of Irish doctors who object to the ban on abortion, said that the ethics committee of the council will receive several proposals on the wording of its guidelines covering the area of reproductive medicine.
