Managing chronic heart failure

Heart failure affects 1-2% of the general population and accounts for up to 2% of healthcare expenditure. Cowie and Zaphiriou (p 422) provide an overview of the diagnosis and management of the condition. They say that improving outcomes now depends increasingly on improvements in communication between healthcare professionals, education of patients and carers, and management of chronic diseases.
