Legionnaires' disease hits north west England

    One man had died and 82 people had been confirmed as having legionnaires' disease, as the BMJ went to press, in the largest outbreak of the disease in the United Kingdom since 1988.

    Officials believe that the source of the outbreak is an air conditioning plant at a council-runarts centre in Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria.
