“Golden hellos” are needed to attract GPs to Wales, says commission

    High rates of prescribing, an ageing workforce of GPs, a shortage of consultants, and long hospital waiting times are among the issues facing the NHS in Wales, according to a new Audit Commission report.

    The report says that waiting times for inpatient admission are longer in Wales than elsewhere in the United Kingdom. At the end of last year 21% of people who were waiting for ordinary inpatient admissions in Wales had waited for over a year, compared with 5% in England.
