Germany: everyone has to be insured for cost of long term care

    Since the 1 January 1995 every German citizen has to be insured against the risk of needing special care as a consequence of either disease or old age. About 1.7% of people's wages is deducted every month for this type of insurance, together with a contribution for their health insurance.

    Even those with private insurance are obliged to join the nursing care insurance scheme of their insurance company.
