    Jennifer Colman, the General Medical Council member forced to stand down from its professional conduct committee, has challenged the council's right to instigate an external review of her suitability to judge doctors' fitness to practice.

    Speaking at a full GMC council meeting last week, Dr Colman accused the council of undermining democracy by forcing her to stand down from a committee she was elected to serve on and acting outside its legal powers by launching an external review of her behaviour.
