French government agrees to subsidise private clinics by £300m

The French government, which ideologically favours the public healthcare sector over the private sector, has just agreed to give a subsidy of Fr3.1bn (£290m; $435m) to the private sector for the current year.
The grant was announced by the Ministry of Employment and Solidarity after a two day strike of private clinics, protesting against unfair competition from public hospitals.
Public hospital employees are civil servants, assured of job security and benefiting from the 35 hour working week. Their employer has to pay fewer “hidden” costs, such as national health insurance, old …
