Access to life saving blood products from the United States could be at risk from new legislation currently going through the European parliament. The proposed legislation aims to guarantee the highest level of quality and safety throughout the blood transfusion chain in all 15 member states. It sets standards for the collection, testing, processing, storage, and distribution of human blood and blood components, as well as the criteria for training of specialised staff.
