The Irish government has sanctioned talks that could bring the appointment of several hundred more hospital consultants and the opening of outpatient clinics from early morning to late evenings. A blueprint designed to improve patients' access to services, drawn up by a government review panel, the Medical Manpower Forum, will form the basis of the talks, which have been welcomed by the Irish Hospital Consultants' Association.
