William Ernest Bowden

Former general practitioner Warrington (b Warrington 1908; q Manchester 1933; FRCGP), d 23 October 2000. After the death of his practitioner father in 1934, he took over the vacant town centre practice. Experience in general practice pre-NHS gave him an invaluable advisory role post 1948. He was police surgeon and medical officer to the fire service, and was chair of the local medical committee for 20 years. His special interest was dermatology in which he held an appointment as clinical assistant. He was president of the Merseyside branch of the BMA, and was elected a fellow in 1972. Ernest found relaxation in the countryside and his garden. Predeceased by his wife, Mary, he leaves three children and six grandchildren.
