The Republic of Ireland's largest health board has said that operating theatres in its major hospitals are idle for almost one week in four. The Eastern Regional Health Authority, which includes Dublin, reported last week that 22% of theatre time is not being used. It attributes the situation to a shortage of trained nurses and poor management of the bed supply.
