Funding boost for prostate cancer research

Funding for prostate cancer in England will increase fourfold under a new prostate cancer programme launched by the Department of Health last week. By 2003-4, the department will be directly funding £4.2m ($6.3m) of research a year.
At the launch of the programme Alan Milburn, the health secretary, said: “This starts the implementation of improvements in cancer services. For too long not enough has been done to detect prostate cancer or to improve treatment.”
