MPs have called for far reaching reforms in the provision of mental health services in the NHS in England, including the closure of the three special hospitals for dangerous, mentally ill criminals.
In their report, which runs to nearly 60 recommendations, the members of the health select committee propose replacing Rampton, Ashworth, and Broadmoor with eight smaller, regional based units, which should be fully integrated with existing secure and mental health services.
