New cervical smear technique to be piloted in NHS

The NHS is to test liquid based cytology for cervical screening. If it proves successful the method could replace Pap smears and give a much needed technological boost to the current cervical cancer screening service.
The pilot scheme, which has been recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE), is due to start in March 2001 and will include sites in England and Wales. It will run …
