CDC study quantifies foodborne illnesses

    The United States has about 75 million cases of foodborne illness annually, resulting in 325000 hospitalisations and roughly 5000 deaths, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, Georgia.

    The study, entitled Food-Related Illness and Death in the United States, represents an effort to establish a baseline standard against which future progress in diagnosing and combating foodborne illness can be assessed.
