Several errors occurred in table 6 of the paper by R Bhopal et al (24 July, pp 215-20) because of an editorial mistake. The correct table appears below. The authors would also like to point out that the first key message (which was inserted editorially as a background statement) is not a finding of their study and that their results undermine the statement.
