Rapid responses are electronic comments to the editor. They enable our users
to debate issues raised in articles published on bmj.com. A rapid response
is first posted online. If you need the URL (web address) of an individual
response, simply click on the response headline and copy the URL from the
browser window. A proportion of responses will, after editing, be published
online and in the print journal as letters, which are indexed in PubMed.
Rapid responses are not indexed in PubMed and they are not journal articles.
The BMJ reserves the right to remove responses which are being
wilfully misrepresented as published articles or when it is brought to our
attention that a response spreads misinformation.
From March 2022, the word limit for rapid responses will be 600 words not
including references and author details. We will no longer post responses
that exceed this limit.
The word limit for letters selected from posted responses remains 300 words.
I started my nurse training a year ago and since that time I have
felt that the shortage of nurses could be resolved if conditions for
student nurses were resolved.
As a student nurse I am given a bursary of £390 per month, from this
bursary I have to pay rent, food, phone, buy books and stationary,
clothing and some travel costs. The bursary I recieve falls very short of
what I need. Sadly due to the fact that I recieve such a high bursary I am
not intitled to any student banking benefits, such as loans and interest
free credit cards. Therefore, I constantly find myself in debt with the
bank.
I would like to work, but sadly due to the fact that placement times are
not always predictable it is impossible to gain regular employment.
Joining a nursing agency is difficult as they are inundated with nurses
after extra money to boost their pay.
If the goverment was to improve pay conditions for student nurses,
especially those with children, I am sure that more people would be
attracted to the proffession
