This patient is not under my medical care, but I do have a personal interest in her. She has made me stop and think about my daily contact with patients. She is 21 years old and in a geriatric bay, at a large hospital in the north of England. She is anorexic and this is her first experience of illness and, indeed, of hospitals. Her observations of day to day ward activity should be noted by all of us in medicine.
