The health service circular which gives details of terms and conditions of service for pre-registration house officers undertaking placements in general practice can be downloaded at http://www.open.gov.uk/doh/coinh.htm. GP house officers will be employed by a trust for the 12 month duration of their jobs, and remain in hospital residences during their time in general practice. Out of hours pay is similar to that of a GP registrar: a flat 22.5% of basic salary covers out of hours duties.
