Nurses, midwives and health visitors are to have their own national careers advice service providing information and guidance on all jobs in the NHS. The new service is designed to augment existing work at local level, and will be extended to cover professionals allied to medicine after further consultation. A major intent within the new initiative is to ensure that NHS managers provide family friendly employment policies that make return after career breaks easier. Tenders to provide the service will be invited in September this year, and the new venture should be up and running by April of next year.
