The grass is not always greener in the private sector: a survey of more than 5,000 British managers reported in IRS Employment Trends (July 1998: p2) found that a quarter worked more than 50 hours each week, though two thirds agreed that working long hours was confused with commitment. Four out of 10 equated working long hours with inefficiency a downward spiral, as longer hours lead to still yet less efficiency.
