The rise of the GP co-op had left out of hours training based solely on a practice rota inadequate. New guidance from the GMSC suggests that registrars should be exposed to between 1 and 10 million hours of patient cover ‘in as wide a variety of circumstances as possible.' Registrars should be gradually introduced to full workload, and should always have fully-trained backup, in person if necessary.
