An army may march on its stomach but finding even a packet of crisps at four in the morning can be tricky for on call doctors. In a new initiative to tackle the problem of hunger on call, the BMA's Junior Doctors' Committee has taken a leaf from the Michelin guide, and will award 1 star to hospitals who live up to the minimum requirements of the New Deal (1991), and 2 or 3 stars to those that exceed it. Just one of the many pieces of information that doctors applying for compulsorily resident posts should check in the interim between shortlisting and interview.
