Participation in active adult centred learning is a key factor in avoiding burnout. If part of the problem is identifying the right course among the many diverse opportunities, the 1998 GP course directory and CME handbook should plug the information gap. The list of relevant courses is impressive testament to the many skills that GPs may feel it appropriate to develop: higher degrees in management and general practice predominate, along with such esoterica as neurolinguistic programming (Ripon) and the Celestial Lancet Study Tour (Beijing).
