GP Registrars – a medico-legal guide is aimed at helping GP registrars in the transfer from hospital to general practice. Produced by the Medical Defence Union the guide highlights some of the differences between the ways in which hospital doctors and GP registrars can be held accountable for their actions, and examines some of the medicolegal implications of everyday practice. Topics covered include the differences between the NHS complaints procedure and the differences in accountability between hospital and general practice when a doctor is accused of medical negligence. Another section of the guide looks at confidentiality and minors, confidentiality and AIDS, and medical records and disclosure. The guide is available from the MDU, 3 Devonshire Place, London W1N 2EA.
