UK needs more cancer specialists

    Over 450 extra consultants could be needed to staff the network of cancer units and specialist cancer centres proposed by the Calman/Hine report.

    In 1995 the Expert Advisory Group on Cancer, which reported to the chief medical officers of England and Wales, published A Policy Framework for Commissioning Cancer Services. This proposed a network of 150 cancer units linked to 40 specialist cancer centres.
