    Editor—We wish to report a recent unexpected experience in recruitment of senior house officers. A single post as senior house officer in the accident and emergency department of St Thomas's Hospital, a teaching hospital in London, was advertised in the BMJ on 28 June 1997, the appointment to start just five weeks later.
