Saccharin may be taken off carcinogen list: The national toxicology programme in the United States plans to review the data on saccharin to see if it can be removed from the federal government's official report on cancer causing substances. Since 1981 saccharin has been listed as “anticipated” to be a carcinogen on the basis of tests in animals.
