European surveillance network to be set up

Dutch health minister Professor Els Borst-Eilers has hailed the unanimous decision to set up a European network for the surveillance of infectious diseases as a “revolution in cooperation” in public health.
Agreement was reached after a lengthy debate at the European Council of Ministers in Luxembourg last week, which was chaired by Professor Borst as part of the Dutch presidency of the European Union.
