Three people infected with HIV from blood transfusion: Blood from an HIV positive donor in northwest England escaped detection by the standard screening methods as the donor had only recently become infected. As a result, three patients contracted HIV infection. This is the first such case identified in England since the testing of blood for HIV was introduced in 1985.
