A 16 year old British girl with anorexia nervosa has been ordered by the High Court to be detained against her will, by force if necessary, for the purpose of treating her eating disorder.
The case breaks new ground with the decision for the first time that the High Court can order detention of a child under the age of 18 years for the purposes of medical treatment under its inherent jurisdiction over the welfare of children.
