Geoffrey Rose, the great epidemiologist, had a gift for capturing medical truths in a way that surprised. “If,” he said, “you are in the lowest risk category for coronary heart disease you are still more likely to die of it than of anything else.” Rose reminded us that coronary artery disease is much the commonest cause of death and that recognised risk factors don't account for all the deaths from the disease.
